The Aero Race 5.0 jersey is like a TT suit for the upper section of your body. This wonderful piece offers improved aerodynamics for the performance orientated cyclist. Castelli designers took the time to engineer the jersey to be fast by combining a proper anatomic fit with the optimal fabric selection for the Aero Race 5.0. This winning combo help you slice through the air. This is a sharp contrast from other manufacturers whose idea of an aero jersey is just a snug fitting garment with little technical consideration.
The front main panel that pierces the wind is constructed from Castelli's Velocity Dry fabric. This low volume material is downright slippery in the wind tunnel and provides you with a highly elastic, snug fitting material the breathes and wicks moisture. The main rear panel is constructed of Velocity 3D. It gives you added ventilation to help with the moisture transfer process, but is still low volume and snug fitting. The shoulders and sleeves have a body-sculpted shape that will not bunch or sag. That's good news considering this is the first part of the jersey to punch the air in front of you. The combo of the these low volume fabrics keep the jersey weight down to a scant 96 grams.
Other highlights and salient features include elastic mesh arm bands and bottom compression band with a silicone elastic gripper. These items keep your jersey in place regardless of the effort laid forth. There are 3 storage pockets on the rear of the jersey for storage and a full zip YKK Camlock zipper is fitted on the front of the jersey.
If you're a number cruncher and want to determine just how fast the 5.0 really is, we can break it down for you. Castelli claims wind tunnel testing has shown a 12 gram savings in drag which is about 40 seconds over 40k. Numbers aside, we can tell you from experience, the jersey actually feels faster when you're riding and the sub 100 gram weight makes it feel like a natural extension of your skin.
