The Litespeed C1 road frameset features power-saving aerodynamics, tuned ride quality and internal cable routing that is compatible with both standard or Di2 cables. For 2012, it has been updated with a removable seatpost for easy adjustment and travel case fitting. Wind tunnel data shows the C1 has 16% less drag than a standard road frameset. This translates to an amazing 20.4 watt savings at 30 mph. In addition to aerodynamic performance, the C1 impressed us with its ride quality and construction. Even though its weight approaches 1000 grams, it seem like a frame that is built to withstand many seasons of hard use without issues.
Unique to the C1, the aero shrouded water bottle mounting on the downtube significantly reduces aerodynamic drag. Other aero road frames have aero downtubes but attaching a water bottle creates a major area of turbulence. Litespeed cleverly tucks the bottle mount into the downtube reducing turbulence and drag upwards of 50% over the competition.
Other AeroLogic features include an aero headtube, downtube and seat tube. A rear wheel cutout, aero bottom bracket, seatpost and sleek seat stays improve air flow. Internal cable mounting hides the cables for standard and Di2 systems. The Di2 battery can be cleanly mounted under the left chainstay.
Aero does not have to imply reduced ride quality. Size-variable tubing construction mean Litespeed has adjusted tubing, carbon lay-up and profiles to ensure ride quality throughout the full range of frame sizes. A tapered 1 1/8" to 1 1/2" fork with a wide crown provides exceptional stability during descents and very solid steering. One last thing about the C1 are its head-turning cosmetics. Litespeed's matte carbon scheme with updated graphics looks great with black, white and carbon components.
Build information: requires braze-on front derailleur and BB30 bottom bracket. A 24mm Shimano Hollowtech II crankset can be used with an adapter.
