The Dura-Ace 7900 crank is refined in several ways. It is designed with a more flowing, aerodynamic shape and lighter weight. Contributing to the 15 gram weight savings over the 7800 crank is a hollow outer chainring that is a work of art itself. In addition to reduced weight the hollow design contributes to a 20% increase in stiffness over the 7800 crank.
Shimano has also optimized the tooth profile of the chainring to provide a very efficient interface with the new 7900 chain. The tooth profile reduces friction, increases shifting performance, and allows the drive train to be virtually silent. Shimano has finally added a 7950 long-awaited compact 34/50 option so you can have a full Dura-Ace group and run a compact crank.
