This image of the 1924 Tour de France at the Gate of Verduns captures the riders in the rain soaked and glazed cobbled streets as they enter Verdun, south west of Luxembourg. One look at both the riders and spectators show just how miserable this stage was due to the weather. One can only imagine the suffering that took place on that particular day.
Of all the posters in the Intimate Portrait of the Tour de France series, this may just capture the energy of the race best of all.
