The GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition is the most powerful small Point of View camera that is available. For the price of the included Wi-Fi Remote over the Silver Edition the camera also provides you with a lot of additional features. First, the Wi-Fi Remote itself makes life so much easier. Simply push a button on your wrist and be assured that your camera is recording, push it again to shut it off. No need to have someone staring into your camera to look for the blinking light. If you have a few cameras that one remote will control all of them. The quality has gone up yet again. Not only can the camera record in 1080p modes, but it also records in 1440 and 4k Cinema 12 and 2.7k Cinema 30. This means 1440p is the newest television standard which is starting to sweep the television market. It is a higher quality than the current 1080p resolution. 4k is considered Ultra High Definition and creates and image that is simply unmatched from any camera short of high end cameras that are more common on a movie set than anywhere else.
In addition to all of these settings GoPro has provided enhanced and professional grade low light performance. This is one thing that we have struggled with in the past with various Point of View cameras including the first generation of GoPro and shooting modes that allow for white balance and color setting adjustments give the user even more power if they choose to use it. With all of this they still managed to make the camera case a bit better including a more secure and Lockable latch for the case as well as a better lens cover that offers great protection but enhances the sharpness of the image as well. Oh and one more thing, if you want to capture that tough to get image, this camera shoots still images with 30fps bursts. In contrast, most top quality SLR's only offer up to 16fps. It is tough to imagine getting more value and quality out of a camera, but it seems that GoPro has set the bar pretty high with this camera.

I have had the chance to use my new Black Edition camera only twice so far. I have found that it's video quality is heads and tails over the Hero 2 that I have, the remote is absolutely perfect. It really just makes life very simple. The app for iPhone is a bit quirky however so I think we will see a few updates in the future to iron out those issues. The new 1440 mode is great quality, but I like widescreen so I have been shooting in the 2k and 1080 modes with great success.
I used the camera for the second time with the WiFi remote and it was 8 degrees outside, the battery didn't last very long, but I have been told that had I updated the software that wouldn't be an issue. I will be trying it out again in similar conditions in a few days and I am hoping to see more time out of the battery. In normal temperatures I had no issue at all with the battery.
Pros: Great image quality, smaller, lighter, WiFi Remote
Cons: iPhone app needs work
