The K-Zero is Colnago's next step forward over their Flight TT frameset with a 7% improvement in stiffness and a 9% lower drag coefficient. To achieve these improvements designers employed modified new NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics) tube shapes. They also examined every other aspect of airflow and made a number of small improvements without losing the fundamentally sound ride characteristics, power transfer and legendary build quality that have made Colnago a revered name in the bike world.
One thing you notice about the K.Zero right off the bat is the way the flattened stem links with the base bar so the aero section of the base bar can be maintained without the need to go to a drag-creating round shape required by a traditional stem. This creates a stem/bar joint where the stress levels are also greatly reduced; a key factor that allowed Colnago to develop their aerodynamically superior light weight aero bar and stem system. This system keeps the main aero section of the base bar in the optimal position plus it is fully UCI compliant. The clip-on sections can be tuned in height and reach for rider positioning and a perfect fit. The new stem/bar interface also fully conceals the brake and shifter cables. Hiding the cables is another small but important area of drag reduction that also makes the K.Zero a very clean appearance.
The included brake calipers are fully integrated and out of the wind. The rear brake cable is internally routed and the chainstay mounted rear caliper is hidden just behind the bottom bracket with an aerodynamic cover allowing airflow along the underside of the chainstays. The front brake is neatly tucked on the included aero fork virtually disappearing into the crown/fork legs.
Even with its advanced aero feature, the K.Zero is easy to work on and travel with. It has a standard English threaded bottom bracket shell so virtually all cranksets/powermeters can be used without any special adapters required. The included seat post has a wide range of fore and aft adjustment plus it is completely removable allowing the K.Zero to easily fit in a standard travel case. It is compatible with all drivetrain systems plus internally routed electronic systems with a specific battery mount located on the bottom of the downtube just in front of the bottom bracket. There are two bottle cage mounts for hydration options.
