This cassette is the same as the original Red but it is black anodized instead of the more pedestrian silver.The SRAM Red cassette is revolutionary in design exemplifying SRAM's core principles of light weight, higher efficiency, and maximized technologies. The main part of the cogset is machined out of a single forged form that is heat treated and then shaped in a complex series of CNC-guided operations never before used to make a cassette. The sprockets (including the two free cogs) have all been designed with SRAM's OpenGlide™ technology for smooth-as-silk up and downshifts. The SRAM red cassette delivers the comparable light weight of titanium with the superior strength, stiffness, and longevity of steel.
