The SS.Uno S7 jersey, sometimes referred to as the SS.1 jersey is the replacement and ultimate evolution of the venerable SS.Uno jersey. The only similarity the current Uno has with the past Uno jersey is the name, because nothing is carried over. In fact, it is probably closer to a ground-up redesign than an evolution of a product. Regardless, it is clear that the brilliant minds at Assos spent plenty of time and resources in an attempt to craft perfection in a performance orientated cycling jersey. Perhaps what is most remarkable is the price point. Granted it is not inexpensive, but when you consider what you are getting for the price, the Uno is a great value.
As with most Assos garments, it always boils down to fit and fabrics. Assos choose to use their proven AEPD racing cut to address the fit. The AEPD acronym stands for Advanced Ergonomic Pattern Design. This means every panel is pattern-cut in an anatomical shape to mimic the body while in the cycling position. In essence, the SS.Uno is made to fit perfectly while you are riding, not standing around or sedentary. Many other manufacturers produce their garments to fit in the showroom or to have great rack appeal, Assos chooses to make a product that is designed to fit during sport. It's that simple.
The fabric and textile choice of this jersey is superb. At the core of the jersey is Assos's proprietary Type.vX121. Sometimes called simply VX121, it features two unique surfaces, but is a single-layer textile that exhibits both pull and push characteristics. Low volume, triple microfiber filament technology combined with a brand new mechanical weaving technology. The fabric has low volume, is incredibly light and offers complete non-restrictive feel for total comfort and performance. This light and quick drying material is also treated with PAT (Permanent Antibacterial Treatment). Perspiration degrades and causes undue wear to the garment, by protecting the fabric from bacteria with PAT, the fabric is preserved as is the fabric properties and lifespan is increased.
Other highlights include a raglan sleeve design as well as a low cut round collar design. Both offer increased comfort in these design-challenging areas. No grippers are used in the sleeve ends, the jersey simply relies on the stretch of the fabrics to stay put on your arms. Dot-point silicone dabs are placed on the bottom hem of the jersey to keep it from riding up your bibs/shorts. Storage duties are taken care of by 3 standard pockets and one smaller zip security pocket. Full zip and bottom zipper cover round out the package.
