The RS is Cervelo's stiffness-to-weight (STW) design based on the R3 to accommodate more upright cycling positions while maintaining the high performance characteristics that set Cervelo apart. After all, your flexibility has nothing to do with your performance level, even a good portion of the pros have rather limited flexibility (which is not that strange, they were not selected for their ability to touch their toes, but for their excellent leg muscles, heart and lungs). The RS does not fall into the trap so often found in the bike industry of equating a higher handlebar position with less of a desire for high performance. From tube shapes to carbon lay-ups to stiffness & strength, the RS is so good that some Pro Tour riders will use it.
To match the 2cm higher handlebar position Cervelo has made a couple geometry changes form the R3. The RS has a longer headtube. It also features longer chainstays because a higher handlebar position rotates the rider's center of gravity backward. Longer chainstays more evenly distribute the riders weight between the two wheels for optimal handling characteristics. The XS size uses 650 wheels.
