CeramicSpeed takes a SRAM Force Flattop chain and runs it through a multi-step optimization process in Denmark that reduces friction beyond what you get from the factory. The treatment involves polishing the link plates, cleaning away manufacturing residue, and applying two layers of UFO coating that fills microscopic surface irregularities. That preparation reduces the energy lost to chain friction, which CeramicSpeed claims saves between two and five watts compared to a standard chain over a 650-kilometer distance.

The chain works with SRAM's 12-speed AXS road and gravel groupsets that use the Flattop chain interface—Force eTap AXS, Red eTap AXS, and Rival eTap AXS. The Flattop design uses a wider, flatter outer plate profile than traditional chains, which means this chain won't work with Shimano, Campagnolo, or SRAM's mountain bike Eagle drivetrains. The optimization treatment CeramicSpeed applies isn't permanent. You'll need to clean and recoat the chain with UFO Drip after about 650 kilometers to maintain the low-friction performance. The chain ships with a single-use sample of UFO Drip All Conditions to get you started, but you'll need to buy a full bottle for ongoing maintenance.

The UFO treatment works by creating a smooth, dry film on the chain surfaces. That coating performs well in dry and moderately dusty conditions, but it's not designed for wet weather or muddy riding. If you're planning to ride in rain or sloppy conditions regularly, you'll want to use a different chain or accept that the coating will wash off and potentially cause surface corrosion on the chain. The package includes 120 links, a quick link for installation, and a CeramicSpeed decal. The chain weighs 278 grams, which is about 12 grams lighter than a standard SRAM Force Flattop chain before any optimization.
