Description

Electronic shifting at the 105 level changed what riders could expect from a mid-range road bike. Shimano's R7170 groupset uses wireless communication between the shift levers and derailleurs, with response times that match the flagship Dura-Ace system and a seatpost-mounted battery that runs for hundreds of miles between charges. The Caledonia 105 Di2 pairs this drivetrain with Cervelo's endurance-oriented carbon frame, creating a bike that handles long-distance events and rough pavement without sacrificing the responsive feel expected from a race-derived platform.

The Caledonia emerged from Cervelo's internal group rides where route selection often ignored the distinction between road and whatever surface looked most interesting. That heritage shows in the frame's tire clearance, which accepts up to 34mm rubber without fenders or 31mm with fenders installed. The geometry positions riders lower than traditional endurance bikes but higher than aggressive race machines, finding a middle ground that reduces fatigue over multi-hour efforts while maintaining the handling precision needed for fast group rides and spirited descents.

Cervelo routes cables internally through a tapered head tube that shares dimensions with the R5, Soloist, and Aspero, allowing stem and bearing cap swaps across the lineup for riders who want different fit options or a more integrated aesthetic. The removable front derailleur mount attaches with two countersunk screws, enabling replacement if damaged or complete removal for conversion to a 1x configuration as drivetrain preferences evolve....
