Description

When speed and efficiency against the clock is crucial to your stage race event or weekend TT throwdown, the UCI-legal Cervelo P5 Ultegra Di2 Disc Bicycle will deliver everything you put into it, and maximize your abilities and effort. Built here in a blend of Dura-Ace and Ultegra Di2 12-speed components, and featuring a DT Swiss alloy wheelset, this P5 is best purchased by someone who already has a great set of deep section aero race wheels and/or a rear aero disc wheel. Use the DT's for training and bike set-up/positioning work, then change out to the race wheels for events. You save some money off the pure premium version without sacrificing.

Cervelo has been forefront in the aero efficiency game since day 1. Each successive design gets faster and offers more innovation, and this generation of the P5 is no different. With a full theoretical and real world testing process that tapped into CFD, FEA, ISO and wind tunnel testing before hitting the road, Cervelo's engineers created a disc brake frame design focused entirely on UCI legal aero performance with real gains in frame stiffness. The headtube is 22% stiffer, while the bottom bracket is 28% stiffer, than the previous generation frame, which was no noodle. A truly innovative, easily set-up and adjusted Speed Riser stem/bar system offers simple and comprehensive adjustments, as do the aero bar extensions. The internal routing system is smart and manageable with the Di2 e-Tube wiring system and internal battery. It should be noted that the Dura-Ace Shift button components are the 11-speed generation with updated firmware for 12-speed use. The wiring of the cockpit features the Di2 e-Tube SD50 series wires and connectors, which then are mated inline with an SD300 wire that connects the shifters to the newer generation BT-DN300 3-SD300 wiring ports. The other two ports are each wired directly to the each of front and rear derailleurs. The new battery system and SD300 wires are more capable than the older version, and the junction/controls for the Di2 system are locate din the R8150 12-speed rear derailleur.

The 2x12-speed drivetrain is directed by the bar end and brake lever Dura-Ace Di2 shift buttons, which control the Ultegra Di2 front and rear derailleurs. An Ultegra 52-36T crankset, chain, and 11-30T cassette offer plenty of range and control, which favor the precision and speed of the Di2 system with cost-effective durability and performance. Shimano's excellent mineral oil based hydraulic disc braking system delivers great control and stopping power when needed, while being fairly straightforward to service. Cervelo selected 160mm Ultegra IceTech disc rotors front and rear for a balanced feel. Many TT/Tri riders opt for more rear brake than on a road bike due to the more forward center of gravity and lower riding position, so the 160mm instead of a 140mm on the rear makes perfect sense.

Build kit wise, the Cervelo Speed Riser stem/bar system builds out the front of the cockpit, while the wide ranging fit of the Aero Carbon post supports a Prologo Dimension Tri Saddle. The DT Swiss P1800 32 Spline Disc Wheelset offers tubeless tire ready compatibility and makes a great training set, with a smooth, fast ride and excellent mechanical hub components. Vittoria supplies the Corsa Speed TLR 25c G2.0 tires for speed, grip, and decent inherent puncture protection. Cervelo opted for their Aero Thru-Axles, in the 12/100mm, 12/142mm sizes, with a bolt-on design for the cleanest air flow.

Although Cervelo developed the P5 as a UCI TT bike, the P5 is often favored by mid to long length triathletes who find all the accoutrements of the PX series bikes to be to bit too much. Every rider finds the P5 fast and compliant despite the physical requirements of the aero position and long events. We feel that this complete P5 Ultegra Di2 2022 delivers the one of the best values and overall performance for the price, both within the Cervelo line and in the wider market.
