Description
Aerodynamic race bikes demand compromises that climbing bikes avoid, while pure climbing machines surrender watts to the wind. The Cervelo Soloist refuses to pick a side. This carbon frame splits the difference between Cervelo's S5 aero platform and the R5 climbing machine, borrowing tube shapes and aerodynamic profiles from the former while incorporating layup techniques and compliance characteristics from the latter. The result sits approximately 250 grams lighter than S5 and 250 grams heavier than R5, with drag figures that fall predictably between the two. For riders who race criteriums in the spring, tackle gran fondos in the summer, and chase local KOMs year-round, the Soloist eliminates the need to choose between speed and versatility.
Geometry comes directly from the R5, which translates to handling that remains composed through technical descents and responsive when accelerating out of corners. The 410mm chainstays stay consistent across all six frame sizes, contributing to a snappy feel under power regardless of which size fits your body. Cervelo designed the frame around 34mm tire clearance, allowing riders to run wider rubber for training or rougher road surfaces without sacrificing race-day positioning. The threaded T47 BBright bottom bracket standard simplifies maintenance for riders who log serious miles without a dedicated mechanic on call.
Internal cable routing cleans up the frame's aerodynamic profile, but Cervelo engineered a bearing cap system that threads cables under the stem rather than through it. This practical detail means stem length adjustments or swaps don't require bleeding hydraulic brake lines. Position changes, fit refinements, or lending the bike to a teammate become straightforward tasks rather than shop appointments.... Read More
