Description

Elite's trainer line has been streamlined, with clearer differences between models and purposes within specific price points. That makes life easier for consumers, which is great. While not everyone is willing or able to pony up $1300 for a smart trainer, if you are considering it, the Elite Drivo (Drive-O) wheel-off direct drive trainer is clearly the company's optimal performance trainer for those who want interface and control via third party apps, ANT FE-C protocol, Bluetooth, and ANT+. Elite's Turbo Muin series trainers struggled with consistent power accuracy from it's calculated system, so the designers moved to a an actual 24 point power measurement system which has tested at +/1% accuracy, which would make it one one of the most accurate systems offered. The Drivo's ergonomics, function, and usability are all improved over the Real Turbo Muin B+ trainer, and the hub axle system is designed for 130/135 QR use, as well 12/142mm thru-axle frames. The unit is quiet, generally running in the mid 60's decibels wise, which means your drivetrain is likely to be louder. When you sprint the noise increases, but stays around 70 decibel range. The Drivo is a serious competitor to the latest Wahoo Kicker, CycleOps Hammer, and Tacx Neo.

Every aspect of the Drivo has been analyzed and optimized for user success. The simple, offset triangular feet make stable height adjustments easy. The t-style support leg folds up and in quickly for carrying efficiency, while two systems ensure the leg locks properly when extended. Easy to read colored LED lights on the back upper curve of the Drivo's cover indicate power, Bluetooth and ANT+ connectivity. Power is required to use the Drivo. Elite used a true flywheel, at 13.2 lbs, so the overall feel is closer to road experience. Max power is rated at over 2000 watts at 20mph, so even the most gifted cyclist can work to the highest levels with no limitations. At slower speeds, the power curve runs even higher, allowing the Drivo to simulate slopes up to 24%. The power meter's accuracy will keep you honest, while a cadence sensor compatible with ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart is included. There is no rolldown, calibration, or other process needed. The power meter is mechanical and doesn't use strain gauges. No temperature compensation is required. Drivo eliminates many of the pesky tasks that slow you down before you get started. Elite includes an ANT+ USB key, AC-power cord, the fitments for changing axles types, and hub spacers (comes standard with a Shimano HG-type 11-speed freehub (Campagnolo available).

Smart sharing and control access through all the popular training systems is availble. From Elite: "Total interaction between apps, software, computer, smartphone and tablet: ANT+™ FE-E and Bluetooth Smart protocols quickly and easily connect Drivo to computers, smartphones or tablets compatible with these profiles and manage resistance by adjusting and displaying training session parameters. The hometrainer is managed via Elite-designed products such as Real Software for Windows computers or My ETraining app for smartphones or tablets (iOS and Android). Thanks to ANT+™ FE-C communication protocol, third platforms such as Zwift, Kinomap, TrainerRoad, etc., can be easily and entirely used with Drivo to allow the maximum interactivity and personalized indoor training. It's also possible to manage the Drivo through the newer cycle computers that feature the ANT+™ FE-C protocol, such as the Garmin Edge 520, 820 or 1000.

The folks at Elite have truly addressed issues and challenges with previous models, especially in regards to accuracy. The Drivo sets itself apart from other smart, direct drive trainer units with the mechanical power meter's incredible accuracy. The system has also removed many variables, making start up faster and simpler. Individual preferences and system requirements drive buying choices at this level of the market, as the top units are all great products. Elite has truly set the Drivo up for success, and if this is the direction you choose to go, we can fully see why, and believe you will have a tremendous experience.
