Description

Enve's commitment to high performance carbon wheels for disc brake use on, over and off road cannot be questions. The carbon fiber wizards of Enve Composites are out to prove that whatever the surface and rider requirement, they will have a pro-level wheel available for every cyclist. The SES 3.4C TL Disc Wheelset is a lightweight climbing-oriented set-up that is clincher and Tubeless Ready, with disc brake specific rim design and construction. Responsive, fast, and with 2nd generation SES aerodynamics that improve stability, tracking, and handling, especially at speed and in windy conditions. At 1420 grams for the wheelset the overall climbing performance- both ascending and descending, is truly impressive.
With the growth disc brakes and specialization of wider forks and frames with greater tire clearance, the proven aerodynamics of the Smart Enve System have been re-examined. In order to maximize the potential freedom afforded rim construction that does't require a strengthened, parallel brake track required by rim brakes or traditional deep channel clincher rims, the engineers could make the rim lighter, and the wheels more aerodynamic with slightly modified shapes, widths and depth. The SES 3.4C TL Wheelset has been created to be your aerodynamic climbing weapon. It comes equipped with the easily serviceable and incredibly durable DT Swiss 240 Center Lock disc hubs.
When Enve Composites develops a wheelset featuring the company's carefully engineered carbon rims, the intent is to develop race-level wheels that can be ridden every day. The Smart Enve System is a partnership between Enve and Simon Smart, a true aerodynamic guru, to develop the rim shapes, depths, and widths that best match the requirements of these wheels. The best part is you get Enve's proven proprietary molded carbon rims with continual UD fibers and molded spoke holes for maximum strength with a design that is specifically designed for the wheelset's purpose. The front rim is 38mm deep and shallower than the rear rim to aid in crosswind stability, while the rear rim is 42mm deep and therefore improves overall airflow attachment (creating more push, if you will). As always, Enve uses the completely removable bladder system during construction to keep your wheels clean and light, inside and out. The disc rim itself deploy the carbon fiber that previously served the requirements for brake track heat management to now serve the requirements for stiffness and durability, while still reducing overall weight.
The tubeless ready, disc specific rim is lighter, stronger, and has tested faster than the standard road version, with less rolling resistance depending on tire/pressure variables. The tubeless ready rim. Road tubeless compatibility means improved rolling resistance, comfort, traction, and a reduced likelihood of flat tires. The short rim bed adds overall stiffness and tubeless ready bead tire retention. Enve supplies tubeless rim tapes and valves to seal the deal, if you will.
We love the DT Swis 240 Center Lock Disc Hubsets it's combination of lightweight, exceptional durability, simple maintenance and smooth bearings. Set-up here as 12/100mm front and 12/142mm rear thru-axle interfaces. Both wheels have 24 spokes, and are laced 2x/2x. Enve sources both DT Swiss Aerolite and Sapim CX-Ray light bladed stainless steel black spokes, which test virtually the same in all regards. The spokes are not mixed within a wheelset, but you cannot specify. This is due to regular scarcity of both spokes. The nipples are the Enve-specific inverted brass design, the only option rated for the rims. The DT freehub system is the proven dual star ratchet, which makes for simple body changes based on drivetrain choice. We offer the wheelset with the Shimano 11-speed rotor (freehub in DT-speak).
While the SES 3.4C TL Disc Wheelset is billed as a climbing wheelset, it has no rider weight limit or restriction for on-pavement use. Enve offers wheels that maximized for specific experiences, and the 3.4 doesn't have the same level of aerodynamic advantage for flats and rolling courses of deeper section wheels. Perhaps think of it this way: if you are a climbing specialist, you choose the 3.4, but you don't need to specialize to ride them. If you just prefer lightweight road tubeless ready wheels with a lower aero profile for everyday riding, go for it.
