Description
Dual-sided power measurement captures independent left and right leg output, showing whether one leg compensates for the other or if you're producing force symmetrically through both pedals. The Rally XC200 from Garmin puts sensors in both spindles rather than doubling a single-leg reading, which unlocks Cycling Dynamics metrics that track where force applies through the pedal stroke, how platform center offset shifts with fatigue, and whether seated or standing position generates more watts per minute. These measurements matter most when you're identifying imbalances from injury, correcting pedaling inefficiencies, or confirming that cleat position matches biomechanics.
The spindle-mounted electronics package the same hardware Garmin developed through the Vector 3 and refined in the Rally series—power sensors, ANT+ and Bluetooth radios, temperature compensation circuits, and replaceable batteries that run 120 hours between changes. Both pedals measure independently with the right pedal transmitting to the left, and the left communicating with your head unit. That architecture requires both pedals for the system to function, unlike the single-sensing XC100 where only the left pedal contains measurement hardware.
Cycling Dynamics data appears on compatible Garmin Edge computers through the dedicated Cycling Dynamics page, showing real-time metrics including left-right balance, power phase through the pedal stroke, platform center offset indicating where force applies relative to the pedal center, and time spent seated versus standing. The balance metric reveals whether you're favoring one leg, which often happens after injuries or when compensating for knee discomfort. Power phase shows where you're generating force during crank rotation—ideally maintaining pressure through most of the stroke rather than just mashing down at the top. Platform center offset confirms cleat position by tracking where your foot applies force on the pedal platform.... Read More
