HED's Eroica wheel line-up was developed specifically for gravel use. The flagship wheel of the series is the Eroica Carbon Disc option and these wonderfully lightweight, handbuilt wheels build off HED's long experience with their Belgium+ rim design and their accrued carbon fiber construction experience. From the ground up, HED designed and hand-built a wheel for cyclists who want to ride without limits.The complete sub-1300 gram gravel wheelset offers superior ride quality, stability, and strength. The wheels are sold front and rear, which carry the same technical features except for the rear hub. This Eroica Carbon Disc Rear Wheel weights in at 729 grams, is equipped for 12/142mm thru-axle and Center Lock disc brake use.

HED applied some incredible handmade carbon lay-up expertise to create the Eroica Carbon Disc rim, which is not only off center, but features a patent pending Dual-Axis Nipple Alignment (DNA) system that offsets the spoke angles to the hub on each side, giving the carbon rim an undulating effect. HED's engineers achieve this with precise placement of 127 plies of carbon, and employ a CNC drilling technique that aligns the spoke bed & hole to match every spoke angle. You can visually see the wave effect on the nose of the rim. It is impressively achieved and ensures the rim is perpendicular to the spoke so that spoke tension load is evenly distributed around the entirety of the nipple. This allows the spoke tension to be high and balanced, which should reduce the need for frequent tension and truing despite attacking harsh gravel surfaces. The Eroica Carbon Disc features 25mm internal, 30mm external rim widths, as a tubeless ready carbon clincher wheel perfectly suited to a wide tire size range of 32-50mm.

In keeping with the premium nature of the wheel, HED features their excellent 545 Disc rear hub, which is stiff and strong while staying lightweight. Smooth running sealed bearings and an oversized axle keep the operation smooth. Drive comes with the interchangeable premium freehub with an 8° engagement, 5-pawl system that is super responsive and smooth. The high flanges for the lightweight but strong Sapim Laser butted (2.0mm - 1.5mm - 2.0mm) j-bend stainless steel spokes. The Laser is an excellent spoke, allowing the high tension required but offers a long lifetime and better shock absorption thanks to the thin middle section, which limits impact to the rider and rim. Please know that only experienced wheel techs should work on these spokes, as it is easy to wind them up, which can compromise the 15mm middle section. HED uses 24 spokes, laced 2x/2x that when combined with the DNA alignment and rim construction creates a wheel that feels sure and stable, comfortable yet stout, and fast with smooth efficiency.
