Description
Mountain bike pedals take a beating that road setups never see—mud, rock strikes, hike-a-bike sections where you're dragging the bike over obstacles. The LOOK X-Track Race Carbon addresses this reality with a carbon body that sheds weight while the 60mm wide platform distributes pedaling force across 515mm² of contact area. That surface-to-weight ratio is the defining design intent here: enough platform to spread pressure and reduce hot spots during extended climbs, without the weight penalty that usually comes with a larger pedal body.
The retention system uses an SPD-compatible mechanism, so if you're coming from Shimano pedals, the clip-in action will feel familiar—same scoop engagement, same positive clunk. You can run LOOK's included X-Track cleats or keep your existing Shimano SPD cleats without swapping anything. The X-Track cleats offer 6 degrees of float compared to Shimano's 4, which gives your knees a bit more freedom through the pedal stroke. Release angle is 13 degrees on both cleat types. Tension is adjustable via a 3mm hex key at the rear of each pedal, with a range from 6 to 14 Nm that covers everything from easy-exit trail settings to locked-in race tension.
Spindle construction uses a chromoly steel axle running on 2 sealed cartridge bearings at the inboard end and a bushing at the outboard end, all protected by double weather-resistant seals. The dual-seal system handles the water and grit exposure that comes with trail conditions. The pedal body sits close to the crankarm with a 53mm Q-factor, keeping your feet in a natural stance width. Stack height measures 16.8mm with cleats installed. The carbon body is serviceable—bearings and bushings can be pressed out and replaced—though you'll need LOOK's specific pedal tool, sold separately.
