ENVE Gravel Road Fork
Gravel road is a category that is growing quickly, and manufacturers are throwing their R&D and resources behind bikes and components at every price point. Why? Well, though most of us would prefer to be racing the Tour de France, it is more likely we use bikes for far more versatile road riding. Gravel and allroad bikes are taking over as higher-end commuters, adventure bikes, and for people who just love to get out, whatever the road conditions bring. Enve is on board with that. The Carbon Gravel Road Fork delivers incredible strength and stiffness at an incredibly light weight (460g!) for a disc brake fork with a 12mm thru-axle dropout. We haven't even mentioned the integrated, two piece, removable carbon fiber fender yet.
To track and pilot over rough surfaces hour after hour effectively, gravel forks must be competitively lightweight, resist torsion and soak up vibration and impact. Strength and stiffness are paramount, but the comfort balance must be reached as well. No compromises allowed. The carbon fiber masters at Enve use a carbon lay-up process that runs unidirectional carbon fiber from the top of the fork to the bottom, and instead of drilling holes or stripping away materials, the engineers use a proprietary molding construction process, similar to the one used for spoke holes in Enve's bombproof rims. This keeps all fibers intact from the top of the steerer through the slick 12mm fully integrated, closed carbon TA dropouts and disc caliper 74mm Flat Mount. The fork is a hollow one-piece design that delivers incredible lateral stiffness and torsional strength, yet rides so smoothly you will have unerring confidence in the handling and predictability of your front end. Again, remarkably, this is achieved in a1 ¼ inch tapered, 12mm thru-axle disc fork at a weight of 460 grams.
Enve's engineering is matched only by the attention to detail. The carbon fender system is as clean and sleek as anything we have ever seen. The two pieces can easily be removed or installed with minimal effort. This is a case where holding the fork and fender in your hands can only do this assembly justice. The disc brake hose clip almost blends right in with the fork. The fork looks amazing, and with a 382mm axle to crown measurement and the clearance to run up to a 700x35 tire with the fender attached is ideal for speed- oriented allroad riders. Let's face it, at $750, this fork is not for everyone, but Enve knows their customer base and the overall market. Their goal was to build the best gravel/allroad fork, and until we see something from NASA, we expect Enve to hold the championship belt.
