Description
MKS introduced the original BM-7 in 1979, and riders kept asking for it long after production ended. The 2012 reissue brings back the design that defined BMX pedals for a generation, updated with an alloy dust cap replacing the original plastic but otherwise faithful to what made the original work. Craftsmen in Japan still build these by hand, applying the same cup and cone bearing assembly process MKS has used for decades. When a design survives 40+ years of rider demand, the engineering speaks for itself.
The one-piece wrap-around cage creates an aggressive tooth profile that grips shoe soles without the sharp pins that modern platform pedals use. This serrated edge approach provides traction through surface contact rather than penetration, working equally well with skate shoes, hiking boots, or whatever footwear you happen to be wearing. A slight concave shape across the platform helps center your foot naturally, reducing the need to look down and reposition during technical sections. The double-sided design means you can step on and go without flipping the pedal to find the correct surface.
Cup and cone bearings rotate on a chromoly spindle that threads into standard 9/16" crank arms. Unlike sealed cartridge bearings that require complete replacement when they wear, cup and cone systems allow adjustment and service — you can eliminate play as bearings seat in, or rebuild the internals when accumulated miles finally demand attention. MKS includes an alloy end cap that provides access to the bearing assembly without special tools. This serviceability extends pedal life well beyond disposable alternatives and rewards riders who maintain their equipment.... Read More
