Description

Some shop techs just can't deal with chain whips, as effective as they care. The trend lately has been towards the development of large-opening cassette cog pliers that are fast, easy to use with one hand, and never slip off during use. The Park Tool version is the well designed CP-1 Cassette Plier. This plier quickly grips 5-12 speed cassette cogs ranging from 9 to 24 teeth with no manual adjustments required. The CP-1 provides a very secure engagement and is simply more efficient to use than a standard chain whip. A highly desired shop tool, the Park Tool CP-1 is 13.7" (35cm) long delivering excellent distance and leverage during cassette lockring removal.
Just as with a chain whip, the CP-1 simply prevents the cassette from spinning backwards while you use a second tool to remove the lockring. Made with forged steel construction, utilizing a spring loaded return, and comfortable dual-density grips, the Park CP-1 makes the mechanic more confident, with greater speed and efficiency. Those seconds add-up in the shop environment. What has surprised us is how many CP-1's we sell to home mechanics and cyclists. In general they prefer the simplicity and security of the cassette plier concept over a chain whip.
