Pedal threads take abuse every time you swing a leg over the bike. Cross-threading during installation, corrosion from years of exposure, or just the accumulated gunk that builds up in those threads can make pedal changes a nightmare. The Park Tool TAP-3 gives you the means to restore those threads to factory condition, cutting clean paths through damaged or contaminated crankarm threads so your pedals actually thread in smoothly.

The set includes both right-hand and left-hand taps because crankarms use opposite threading on each side. The right crankarm uses standard right-hand threads while the left uses reverse left-hand threads to prevent pedals from loosening as you ride. Both taps cut 9/16" x 20 TPI threads, which covers virtually every adult bicycle pedal on the market. The taps work with Park Tool's THH-1 tap handle or any standard tap wrench.

Running these taps through your crankarm threads before installing pedals accomplishes two things. First, it clears any debris, corrosion, or thread damage that could cause binding during installation.
