Description
Pinarello's refreshed F-series draws its core engineering directly from the Dogma F platform — the elliptical steerer tube, asymmetric frame construction, and Aero Keel bottom bracket all originated on the company's Grand Tour-winning race bike. The Pinarello F9 Ultegra R8170 Di2 sits at the top of this updated lineup, built around a Toray T900 UD carbon frame that shares its geometry, mold design, and structural characteristics with the Dura-Ace version. Pairing the F9 frame with Shimano's Ultegra R8170 Di2 groupset creates a race machine that delivers the full F-series experience while closing the price gap that separates Dura-Ace builds from the rest of the Shimano electronic range.
The frame design centers on Pinarello's E-TICR headset system, which uses an elliptical steerer tube and bearings of different diameters — wider at the bottom, narrower at the top. This narrows the headtube profile and moves internal cable routing from the sides to the front of the steerer, cleaning up the front end while reducing frontal area. The redesigned Onda fork pairs with this headset through a slimmer profile and 47mm rake, developed with input from professional riders to sharpen handling precision on descents. Tire clearance extends to 32mm, accommodating the current shift toward wider rubber without compromising the frame's aerodynamic tube profiles.
Where the F9 and F7 sit within Pinarello's current lineup warrants a brief explanation. Both models share the same T900 carbon frame — identical layup, identical mold. The designation difference reflects the standard groupset tier, with F9 builds carrying Dura-Ace and F7 builds paired with Ultegra or SRAM Force. This Ultegra build puts the F9 platform at a different price point while preserving the same structural DNA. The asymmetric frame design, a Pinarello hallmark since 2000, compensates for unequal forces created by the drivetrain by shaping tube profiles differently on the drive and non-drive sides to balance power transfer and lateral stiffness....
