The success and rider appreciation of POC's Octal road helmet inspired many XC racers to use it for the trail. Recognizing the reasons why: lightweight, fit, and style, POC was flattered but decided to offer an Octal for the XC race and trail scene that carried the Octal features over, but also added some extra strength and coverage that mountain bikers really should have, even if in World Cup racing. Hence, the Octal X was born, and XC racers no longer had to compromise safety for comfort and style.

POC made two important changes for the Octal X. First, the designers added their proven Aramid bridge technology, which acts like an internal matric to structural integrity and guard against impact penetration. Second, the harder EPS shell was carried further over the foam structure of the helmet for greater strength and safety coverage. These two substantial changes resulted in a helmet that weighs just 210 grams in an Medium, which is truly impressive.

All of the other standard Octal road design and features carry over: the fully wrapped unibody shell construction, unique ventilation design, straps molded into the liner structure, full eyewear integration and eyewear garage, and the impressive size and fit adjustment system.

While not suited for everyday serious trail riding, the Octal X is more than capable for XC racing and fast trail riding. It is wonderfully light, and allows so much air in that you almost have to stay dry. And did we mention, 210 grams?
