Description
Single-gear cycling strips the bicycle down to its mechanical essence: one chainring, one cog, no cables to adjust, no derailleurs to align. The Ritchey Garden City frameset takes that philosophy and wraps it in heat-treated, triple-butted Logic steel tubing that Tom Ritchey developed specifically for TIG welding. Named after San Jose's track cycling team, the Garden City carries its velodrome heritage into a frameset that works on the boards, on city streets, and on the winter training loop where simplicity is the whole point.
The frame uses an ultra-light forged and machined 1-1/8" headtube paired with Ritchey's Electrophoretic Deposition coating for corrosion resistance underneath the Scarlet paint. Horizontal 120mm bolt-on dropouts allow chain tension adjustment and accept standard track hubs. The 68mm English-threaded bottom bracket shell accommodates a 49mm chainline with cranksets up to a 55-tooth chainring, which gives enough range to gear the bike for both velodrome sessions and street riding. Two bottle cage mounts and brake drill holes front and rear mean this frame can function as more than a pure track machine without adding complexity to the design.
Geometry uses what Ritchey calls a parallel approach, with the seat tube and head tube angles converging toward matching values as frame size increases. The size L runs a 74° seat tube angle and 74° head tube angle with a 568mm effective top tube, 565mm stack, and 406mm reach. Chainstays measure 395mm across the size range, keeping the rear end tight for responsive acceleration. A 55mm bottom bracket drop sits in the range track riders expect, low enough for stability at speed without introducing pedal strike concerns on banked surfaces.... Read More
