Shimano brake calipers have always set high marks but the marked improvements in the totally redesigned BR-9000 brake calipers are perhaps on par with the jump forward in 9000's shifting and ergonomics. Braking power is increased by 10% over 7900. Both brake feel and modulation are improved. The braking force you can generate from the hoods is now very close to force generated in the drops. Pros using the 9000 brakes report they are able to comfortably gain places in the corners thanks to better braking control.

The design of the BR-9000 calipers symmetrically locates both pivots on a plate and each pivot rotates smoothly on its own bearing. This symmetrical pivot design locates the pivot closer to the brake pad for smoother, more powerful braking and braking force is much more evenly applied from each side.

Other details include replaceable pads held in standard Shimano holders. There is a cam-action quick release with micro-adjusting clicks and an alloy barrel adjuster with an oversize flange so you can fine tune on the fly if need be. Set includes both front and rear brake calipers with an assortment of different length brake nuts.
