Shimano's D2 rim profile aims for a broader stall angle in yaw, giving the front wheel more predictable steering behavior when crosswinds hit at oblique angles—a characteristic that matters more on the front than the rear, since directional stability lives there.

Twenty-four bladed stainless steel spokes lace to the hub in a two-cross pattern, straight-pull heads at both ends.
