Shimano built the SH-RC903E S-Phyre to sidestep that trade-off entirely, using a dedicated wide last rather than a stretched version of the standard RC903. The carbon fiber sole is where the power transfer story lives. Shimano rates it at 12 on their internal stiffness index, which is the ceiling of their scale, and the low stack height keeps your foot close to the pedal axle for a more direct feel through the stroke.
