Style meets function in the Shimano Tokyo Daypack. Perfect for the bike commuting techie or university student, the Tokyo Urban has the technical features of a true cycling backpack and the design of a military-inspired hiking pack. Available in 17 and 23 Liter capacity options, this daypack can manage laptops, books, tablets, clothing, lunch or whatever you feel is necessary to get through the day. It even features a stowed away stretch pack cover for full-on rain protection. Aesthetic design is a personal choice, but we like the almost M.O.L.L.E. style loop and strap system and the squared off shape with the roll top closure system. The subtle colorways have a heathered visual effect, which softens the effect, and gives the Tokyo Urban Daypack the visual of a soft fabric structure than a highly technical backpack.

Yet even a casual observer will recognize the technical features of this pack. The packsheet features highly breathable mesh, segmented dense foam padding which allows for heat and moisture release from active airflow. The ergonomic padded shoulder straps carry the same attention to detail, along with a sliding height adjustable chest strap, reflective highlights, and clip rings for your custom made lip balm on-a-cord. The bottom panel is PU truck tarp-like material that allows you set the pack down without soaking up any moisture and keeps the road spray off the bottom as you ride.

The pack body itself is soft yet structured. The side zip laptop compartment sits right behind the packsheet, which protects your valuable computer from a bike accident or if your bag falls over. The inside of the slot compartment has a soft lining to further safeguard your investment. The large main compartment is perfect for stowing all your important gear, features a mesh flat pocket, and the roll top closure allows wipe open access, handles variable volume stuffing and has an adjustable quick clip closure. A rear facing zip pocket stores quick access items, as does a smaller side version that can conveniently carry a bike size water bottle. The opposite side a loop system that fits smaller u-locks, while larger models can be mounted to the main rear facing exterior organizer, as can a helmet. This set-up is not just for aesthetics, it is truly functional. You can be creative when you need to carry a poster tube, bike wheel, or large baguette.

The material itself is water and spill resistant, and can be wiped down with a mild detergent to clean. As mentioned, the elasticized rain cover stretches over the Tokyo Urban to protect your gear from a heavy rain. Shimano does line the inside of the bag as well for more rain protection, but the cover will truly save your assets when the deluge comes. Best of all it pulls right out a bottom edge velcro pocket, that is also waterproof. You just pull it out and over when you need it, and remove, shake it off, and stow it before you head inside. Like the pack itself the bright fluorescent raincover also has a clip-on light loop, which when added to the prolific dashes of reflective material, ensures excellent visibility to increase safety in marginal conditions.

The Tokyo Urban Daypack comes in 17 and 23 Liter sizes. We recommend the 17 if you don't carry a ton of gear and have a 14" or smaller laptop. The 23 is better suited for those who like to hit the Whole Foods or Co-op on the way home or have a larger laptop.
