Ultegra 6700 was first generation use the cable routing along or inside the bar for both shift and derailleur cables and housing, offering a cleaner, more aerodynamic set-up. Shimano also increased the leverage of the shifting system and moved the dynamic parts of the shifting mechanism into the body, and out of the lever itself, reducing the bulky front section and creating a cleaner, more efficient brake lever action with a new pivot location.

Ultegra's mechanical standards are hard to touch when it come to the balance of longevity, performance, weight and cost. The carbon levers have saved weight and added better aesthetics, with reach adjustment and a reducing shim to allow for hand size and preference. The 6700 left (front) shifter is designed for double chainring drivetrains and is optimized for 6700 and CX-70 front derailleurs.
