The WH-R8170-C50-TL uses the same 50mm-deep D2 aerodynamic rim profile as the R9270 C50, the same 21mm internal width tuned for 28mm tires, and the same tubeless-ready hooked bead. The 21mm internal rim width is the number that matters most in real-world use. The R8170 hubs use anodized aluminum shells with steel freehub internals and Shimano's traditional cup-and-cone bearing system running loose stainless balls on polished races.
