Description

FACT 12r is the carbon layup Specialized reserves for frames where weight reduction is the primary engineering objective, not a secondary benefit. The S-Works Crux uses this top-tier construction to produce a 725-gram frame — a number that puts it closer to road race frames than anything else in the gravel category. Specialized developed the layup using techniques from the Aethos road program, with Rider First Engineering tuning tube profiles, wall thicknesses, and carbon schedules independently across all 6 sizes rather than scaling geometry from a single mold. The result is a gravel bike where a size 49 and a size 61 share the same ride characteristics despite fundamentally different structural demands. For the 2026 model year, the S-Works Crux carries that frame forward with updated wheelset internals and wider tire spec while keeping the geometry and frame construction unchanged.

That geometry positions the Crux firmly in race territory. Head tube angles range from 70.5° on the smallest frame to 72.5° on the largest, paired with a consistent 50mm fork offset and 425mm chainstays across the size range. The steering response sits noticeably quicker than adventure-oriented gravel bikes, closer to what you'd find on a cyclocross race frame, and the stack-to-reach ratios favor an aggressive riding position without dropping riders into a pure road race fit. Tire clearance reaches 47mm on 700c or 2.1" on 650b wheels — enough to run chunky gravel rubber when the route demands it, without carrying the frame weight penalty that usually accompanies that kind of clearance. A threaded bottom bracket shell, 12x142mm rear thru-axle, flat-mount disc tabs, and Universal Derailleur Hanger handle the frame's interface standards, keeping future service and component swaps uncomplicated.

SRAM's Red XPLR handles the drivetrain with wireless electronic shifting across a 1x13-speed range. The 10-46t cassette paired with a 40-tooth chainring delivers 460% gear range, and the 13th cog narrows the gaps between ratios that made earlier 1x gravel setups feel compromised at steady cruising speeds on pavement. A SRAM Red AXS power meter is integrated into the crankset, providing real-time wattage data without requiring a separate spider-based or pedal-based unit. SRAM Red AXS hydraulic disc brakes handle stopping duties, and the Red-level calipers are engineered to reduce lever effort significantly compared to Force and Rival tiers, which translates to less hand fatigue on long descents and during extended gravel events....
