Use these thin metal protectors on shoes with carbon soles to protect the carbon from abrasion. They install in between the cleat and baseplate on a 3-hole shoe and go between the sole and cleat on a Speedplay specific 4-hole shoe. These protectors also makes it easier to clean Speedplay cleats and keeping Speedplay cleats clean helps them perform more reliably.
