Description
Press-fit bottom brackets live or die by bearing alignment, and the DUB BBRight PF30 79-A addresses this with angular contact bearings that handle both radial and axial loads. SRAM's DUB spindle system uses a 28.99mm steel spindle diameter that splits the difference between traditional 24mm and 30mm standards, letting them optimize stiffness without requiring frame-specific crank variants. This particular bottom bracket fits BBRight frames with the 79mm shell width and 46mm inner diameter, which you'll find on certain Cervélo models and other frames using that press-fit standard.
The angular contact bearing design matters more than most riders realize. Under pedaling loads, your bottom bracket sees both downward force and lateral force as each leg pushes through the stroke. Standard radial bearings handle the downward component well but let the spindle deflect sideways. Angular contact bearings resist both load directions simultaneously, which translates to a more solid pedaling feel and longer bearing life since the balls aren't being pushed in directions they weren't designed to handle.
Installation follows standard press-fit procedures, but getting it right requires proper tooling and attention to alignment. The bearing races need to press in square to the shell, and the two sides need to end up parallel to each other. A shop press or quality bearing installation tool makes this straightforward. If you're pressing these in at home, go slow and check your work—a cocked bearing will wear prematurely and potentially creak.... Read More
