Description
Exact Color technology is what separates SRAM's road derailleurs from the hunt-and-peck shifting you get with lesser systems. The Force 22 rear derailleur positions the cage at a precise lateral location for each cog, which means the pulleys align directly under the engaged gear rather than sitting slightly off-center. That alignment eliminates the faint chain noise that plagues less refined drivetrains and delivers shifts that land exactly where you send them.
X-Horizon geometry keeps the parallelogram moving in a single plane—laterally across the cassette—rather than swinging through an arc like traditional designs. The practical benefit shows up when you're shifting under load: the chain path stays consistent whether you're on the 11-tooth or the 28-tooth. Ceramic bearings in both pulley wheels reduce friction and extend service life beyond what you'd get from standard bushings. The pulleys spin freely even after seasons of wet-weather commuting or dusty gravel detours.
The short cage version handles cassettes up to 28 teeth, which covers most road gearing setups. If you're running a wider-range cassette for climbing—anything from 11-32T—you'll need the WiFli medium cage variant instead. Both versions use the same DoubleTap lever actuation, where a single lever handles upshifts and downshifts through different sweep lengths. The system feels intuitive once you've logged a few rides, though it's different enough from Shimano's two-lever approach that muscle memory takes a week or two to develop.... Read More
