Description
Twelve-speed SRAM road and gravel drivetrains use a different chain profile than every other chain on the market. The Force Flattop chain matches this unique interface—flat-top inner links that engage the chamfered teeth on Force and Red chainrings and cassettes. Standard roller chains won't mesh correctly with Flattop drivetrain components, which means you can't grab any 12-speed chain off the shelf when this one wears out.
The chain uses SRAM's hard chrome finish on the inner and outer plates, which adds corrosion resistance and reduces friction at the plate-to-ring contact points. Inner link geometry positions the chain precisely on each cassette cog, and the chamfered outer plates help the derailleur push the chain across gears during shifts. SRAM includes a PowerLock connector for tool-free installation—press the link together by hand, then pedal forward under load to fully seat it.
Chain length matters here. The 114 links work for most road and gravel builds, but you'll likely need to size the chain to your specific drivetrain. Count your current chain's links before removing it, or use SRAM's sizing method: wrap the chain around the big ring and largest cog without running through the derailleur, add two links to that measurement, and cut there....
