The SRAM Rival22 11-speed shifters are textbook trickle-down technology modeled after the flagship SRAM Red 22 shifters. They have the same ErgoFit lever bodies and hoods with a smaller, more elongated body and a textured hood to improve grip and finger wrap. Cost is reduced thanks to aluminum brake and shift levers in lieu of the more expensive carbon. Overall weight is still a respectfully light 332 grams.

Double Tap levers refers to SRAM core road shifting technology where a short push upshifts into harder gears and a long sweep downshifts into the easier gears for climbing. On DoubleTap controls, the brake and shift levers are completely independent, each operating with their own pivot points. This not only allows for the multi-position functionality, it also eliminates the risk of engaging brakes or shifters unintentionally.

Like the Red 22 controls, Rival 22 mechanical Double Tap levers feature adjustable brake lever reach. Brake lever fit and feel is a personal thing.
