SRAM's Rival AXS E1 Brake-Shifter with Caliper brings the E1 generation's redesigned lever ergonomics and updated caliper internals down to the Rival tier, which is where most riders building an AXS drop-bar bike actually land. The higher brake lever pivot is the headline change — SRAM claims an 80% reduction in braking effort from the hoods compared to the previous Rival hydraulic levers, and the wider Reach Adjust range plus a redesigned lever shape addresses the finger-pinch complaints from the older generation. What Rival gives up compared to Force and Red E1 is the Bonus Buttons on the inside of the hoods; the core braking hardware and shift feel are shared across all three tiers.

The lever body uses aluminum construction rather than the composite and carbon used further up the hierarchy, which is where the weight difference between tiers shows up. The Rival E1 shift-brake system weighs 801 grams for the pair including calipers, hoses, and hardware — heavier than Force or Red, but the internals driving the braking performance are the same. If you don't need the Bonus Button functionality and you're comfortable with the weight, you get the same one-finger braking power and the same caliper design as the top tiers at a meaningfully lower price.

Each caliper is flat-mount and ships pre-bled with pads installed and the hose attached, so installation is a matter of mounting the lever, running the hose through the frame, cutting to length, and bleeding the shortened line with DOT fluid.
