Dual-head pump chucks work until they don't. The rubber gaskets wear out, the internal switching mechanism gets stiff, and eventually you're fighting the pump head more than the tire. The Topeak SmartHead Upgrade Kit replaces worn pump heads with a design that handles both Presta and Schrader valves automatically. No flipping internal parts, no swapping adapters, no remembering which side is which. You push it onto the valve, flip the thumb-lock lever, and pump.

The SmartHead works because the internal geometry adjusts to whichever valve type you're using. Press it onto a Presta valve and the narrower profile seats against the appropriate seal. Press it onto a Schrader and the larger diameter engages correctly. The aluminum thumb-lock lever creates an airtight seal that holds pressure without bouncing the gauge needle on every stroke. This matters when you're trying to hit a specific pressure and need to read the gauge accurately while pumping.

The kit includes an extra-long hose that stretches 106.5 cm, long enough to reach bikes mounted in a work stand without repositioning the pump. Three different connector sizes come in the box: 12 x 1mm, 8 x 1mm, and 8 x 0.75mm thread pitches that fit most floor pumps on the market, including older models from Zefal, Avenir, Silca, and others.
