Description
Ramped ball bearings inside the TRP Spyre translate cable pull into pad movement with a smooth, progressive feel that builds predictably as you increase lever pressure. The mechanism drives both brake pads inward simultaneously rather than pushing a single pad against a fixed one. That dual-piston approach keeps the rotor centered during braking, which eliminates the flex that causes uneven pad wear on conventional mechanical calipers. Once you get the Spyre aligned, it tends to stay that way.
Setup on the Spyre is straightforward because the dual actuation means you're not constantly chasing a dragging pad on one side. TRP includes a barrel adjuster at the caliper body, so compensating for cable stretch or pad wear takes seconds without tools. The caliper works with any cable-actuated road lever, making it a drop-in upgrade for gravel, cyclocross, or road builds running flat mount frames. TRP recommends compressionless housing for the crispest lever feel, though the caliper functions with standard spiral housing if that's what you have.
The forged aluminum body keeps the profile tight at 40mm wide, clearing chainstays and fork legs without issue. TRP designed the Spyre around 1.8mm rotors for typical road and gravel use, with 2.3mm rotors available for tandem setups that need additional thermal mass. The included semi-metallic pads deliver strong initial bite in dry conditions and accept Shimano M525/M515-compatible replacements when they wear down. Flat mount calipers require the FF-5 adapter for fork installation, and you'll need to source rotors and mounting hardware separately since TRP sells the caliper as a standalone unit.
