Description

Freehub bodies wear out, get damaged, or need swapping when you change drivetrain systems—and the Zipp 177 Freehub Body handles all three scenarios for wheels running Zipp's 177 hub platform. This is the replaceable cassette interface that clicks into the hub shell, carrying your cassette and transferring pedaling force to the rear wheel. When the pawls stop engaging reliably, when you strip the splines wrestling with a stuck cassette, or when you're converting from Shimano to SRAM XDR, this is the part you need.

Zipp offers the 177 freehub body in three versions to match current drivetrain standards. The Shimano/SRAM version uses the traditional HG spline pattern that's worked for decades and still covers most 8, 9, 10, and 11-speed cassettes from both brands. The SRAM XDR version handles SRAM's 12-speed road cassettes with their smaller driver body and different spline interface. The Campagnolo version matches the unique spline pattern that Campagnolo cassettes have used since they split from the Shimano standard years ago. Same hub, different freehub bodies—that's how Zipp keeps the 177 platform compatible across the major drivetrain ecosystems.

Installation is straightforward if you've done hub service before. The freehub body slides onto the hub axle and secures with an end cap. You'll need to remove your cassette first, obviously, and depending on your specific hub generation you may need the appropriate end cap tool. The 177 hub uses Zipp's three-pawl engagement system, so when you're swapping freehub bodies, inspect those pawls and the springs while you're in there. Fresh grease on the pawl pockets doesn't hurt either.... Read More
