When 10 speed arrived on the scene, Campagnolo choose not to narrow the width of the front derailleur cage for the narrower 10 speed chains. Instead, they engineered a resin insert to reduce the width. The design works perfectly, however, the insert will wear and need replacement when they reach the end of their service life. The insert doesn't require tools and simply snaps into place.
