When you plan to be riding regularly in temps ranging from the mid-40's through about 60°F,, you generally want gloves with decent insulation, wind and water protection, good grip and overall comfort. These every day gloves should just work, day in day out, and not break the bank. The Scalda Glove from Castelli is truly a workhorse model in the Italian company's glove line-up. Flexible, comfortable, touch screen compatible, and simply capable, the Scalda is out go-to love for Fall and Spring.

The mid-weight insulation is perfect for cold and cool weather, but not bulky. The fact that the Ultra Fleece fabric is both wind and waterproof allows less insulation to do more. The slip-on design features excellent stretch, ensuring a great fit, especially when wrapped around a bar, and is plenty flexible for shifting and braking. The cuff itself is moderately long, and has a pull tab to help you get them pulled on quickly. Castelli opted for a synthetic suede palm material for it's durability, and water resistance. The palm surface, index and middle fingers feature textured silicone print for great all weather grip and control. The thumb, index, an middle finger tips allow you to manage most of the touch screen swipes you need to interact with your Strava Live when necessary. The suede microfiber is carried over the thumb, for a softer wiping surface that is easy to clean.

Taken as a whole, the Scalda Glove is pretty warm, has decent breathability, and is ready to roll, day after day for road or cross training, commuting, and putting that fat tire bike to work on the snow. Cool and wet, cold and dry, Fall, Winter, or Spring- if you can't find get great use from the Scalda, you must be living in the tropics- which must be nice, but a little boring. Here at Excel we enjoy cool weather riding, cross, and flat-out great gloves. Okay, and maybe a few weeks in the tropics as well.
