Craft’s Warm series focuses specifically on high-output activities in the coldest temperature range; from 40 degrees to well below zero degrees F. Outside of thermal value, the most crucial aspect of such a garment is managing the moisture that comes from working hard in such cold environments. As an athlete in such an environment, you need the thermal warmth, but you can’t afford to get cold. This required a special formulation of Craft’s optimized yarns and fiber development. In creating this new, larger hollow core fiber the goal was to enlarge the airspace that captures core heat, but it still had to manage moisture quickly and effectively away from the skin and through the fabric to the next layer. The mission was successful, without adding much bulk to the overall weight of the piece. The same fiber blend is used throughout the garment, with variation in the size of the hollow fibers. The next challenge was to strategically place these warmer fibers to body climate zones that would require more thermal value. Craft decided on a 3D-knit construction process that would keep the entire garment stretching and conforming at the same rate, while integrating the design so that the user doesn’t notice the panelization.

Bodymapping techniques have been employed by Craft to deliver the correct blend of materials, fabric weights, stretch, and insulation, and created the Craft Warm Crewneck- the company’s warmest baselayer yet. From long experience in high-output winter activities such as ski-racing, Craft has developed comprehensive understanding of the way the body creates, requires, and distributes heat, alongside the moisture management that goes along with it. The fabric sits against the skin, maintaining temperature, but through the fabric and fiber textures and movements against the skin, moisture is eased away from the body and released to the next layer.
