Description

Split finger gloves are frequently referred to as lobster gloves due to the form that closely resembles a lobster claw. The Thermal Split Finger from Craft is recognizable for the form, and the normal function of a split finger glove, which is to keep two sets of two fingers together in a larger compartment so that warmth can be shared with less restriction. The benefits are real, but the challenge is obvious. The split fingers still need to be functional for grip, shifting and braking, and other dexterous activities like zipping up or down, etc. The key to the design is an ergonomic fit and materials that are supple enough to manipulate easily, but still provide the high level of protection and thermal warmth that are the reasons you would chose such a glove style. With a wind and waterproof elastic 3 layer VentairTM softshell outer, supple softshell palm, and fleece insulation throughout, Craft has provided cyclists with the protection level required for such conditions, but in a high output sport like cycling, protection is just half the story. The Thermal Split Finger is supple and comfortable, and the materials work together to regulate heat and manage moisture. Those two processes are the more difficult challenges for any cold weather glove. The materials have to work together to provide and store heat, block the elements, yet lift moisture from the skin and transfer out of the glove.
The emphasis of the Thermal Split Finger is warmth, yet this a fully functional and comfortable piece for today’s cyclists. From the soft terry wiping surface on the thumb, to the silicone gripper elements on the palm and fingers, you will find the features you expect. The seams and material transitions are smooth and barely noticeable while wearing, and the split finger conforms and stretches very well for the level of protection, and yet is adept enough to handle the tactile functions required. There is an elastic fitting around the wrist and an extended, low profile cuff that has a simple Velcro closure on the underside. Other than a few small details, and the lobster effect, this glove shares fabrics and design essentials with the Craft Siberian Glove, but it is meant to be warmer. Many cyclists who choose the split finger design struggle with cold hands and worry about their fingers. The Craft Thermal Split Finger is terrific option for these riders, and once the cyclist gets used to the split finger design, they don’t think much about how the glove looks, but only how well it performs and protects in cold, wet, windy conditions.
