Assos Chamois Creme
You don't need to ride Assos bibs or shorts to take advantage of the famous Assos Chamois Creme (cream). This product has been the favorite of the pro peloton, as well as serious cycling enthusiasts because it is highly effective at reducing friction between the rider and the saddle, as well as the chamois for that matter. Padding is not enough and many pads use technical fibers that are not as soft as naturally occurring options. The newer technical fibers and foam pads do offer significant improvements in many cases, such as anti-bacterial properties and the ability stretch with the body as the rider changes pressure requirements on the saddle. While Assos developed their current formula for their famous elastic chamois pads, the all-natural ingredients are effective on any pad.
The Assos care product designers understand the importance of chamois cream and its function for creating added comfort, so care was taken when developing and blending the unique ingredients. The 5oz Chamois Creme jar is filled with a soft and velvety cream which is made from all natural ingredients and specifically formulated for synthetic chamois pads. It will also reduce bacterial and fungal infections on your skin and lengthen the life of your chamois when used properly. Assos recommends three possible application options for their chamois pads. A very thin layer may be applied directly to the skin. Please avoid the most sensitive areas. This helps to condition in the skin and can assist in preventing bacterial transfer. The second is a thin layer rubbed into the pad itself, which not only contributes to the anti-bacterial properties but also to condition the pad itself, keeping it supple and reducing friction against the skin. The third is perhaps the least practiced, and then only by Assos bib and short users. Assos recommends applying a thin layer to the chamois right after washing, while the pad is still wet. The cream then dries into the pad, maintaining the cover and foam, prolonging their life. In our experience this last usage is actually very effective and reduces the amount of cream to be used when getting ready to ride.
The botanical embrocation has a pleasant, light scent and will deliver a slight tingle on the skin on first contact. The scent isn't so strong that you will attract bees, nor draw looks (well, beyond the norm) at the coffee shop. While there are many excellent chamois creams available, the Assos Chamois Creme is still our best selling product and an Excel Staff favorite. We highly recommend using it, in thin applications as recommended, for optimal results. Keep your skin healthy, your chamois pads properly maintained, and keep friction to a minimum with Assos Chamois Creme.

This is good stuff - nice color - nice scent - little tingle, but nothing alarming. I like it. BUT - this is my first and last tub of it. Because the Excel Relief stuff is half the price for a bigger tub. It doesnt smell as nice, but it works as well.

The new formula is somewhat disappointing. It doesnt have the tingling and cooling sensation of the prior product. It is also lighter and appears to have more air in it. However, I still use it since I havent found an alternative.

The jurys out.... Ive been a passionate advocate of Assos chamois creme for years - when it comes to my nethers, theres simply nothing too good, and nothings been better. Granted its expensive, and while its not always true that you get what you pay for, in this case, you do.
Or do you? Im not at all sure about the new formula. Its lighter, fluffier (ie, more air whipped into it = lower density = less product for the same price) and as noted, seems to be lacking the astringent tingle from the witch hazel that always let me know that that Swiss gnomes who formulated this magic stuff were watching my back (side).
Now it feels like just another chamois lube. But Im going to withhold final judgement until I can get outside and log some 4-5 hour rides. Thats where the old creme used to shine. Well see. Stay tuned.

Being a long time Assos Chamois creme user, the new formula isntt what I expected. Was skeptical at first cause it was different color - light blue instead of vanilla color and didnt seem as aromatic. After a month of use, I am happy to report it works just as well as the original formula.

I have been using Assos Cream for longer than I can remember. I apply to shorts after washing (while still wet). I also apply some to my skin before each ride. I am Not going supper long distances (40 miles on a short day, 65 to 70 on a long day), but I do not get any hot spots. I only wish that I could get the 1/2 Kilo pump bottles teams in Europe use! It is kind of a cool package, the cream is pumped from the bottom and a membrane covers the top as the level drops in the bottle, cool. Best Chamois Creme I have found so far!

Ive tried all the other less costly Chamois Cremes but none can compare to this one. By far the best and worth the couple extra dollars.

I have been using this product for about 4 years now and I really love it. Personally, I apply the creme to directly to my body and not to the chamois. It totally prevents chafing and you can use it on other areas of skin irritation with great results. Great skin lotion. Sure hope they never quit making it. Try it, youll like it.

When used prior to ride, on clean dry chamois, it makes multi hour rides chafe free. It also keeps old shorts like new if washed after each use.
