Ridley grew to the biggest brand in Belgium is just a few short years by delivering cutting edge technology and excellent reliability all with very affordable pricing. The Dean RS takes their Pro Tour proven Dean and adds a removable seat post for easy seat post adjustment and travel. Ridley also tweaked the geometry and carbon make-up of the RS version making it more comfortable for longer triathlons and time trials by making it slightly shorter and taller. Friendlier vertical rear dropouts (vs. rear-facing horizontal dropouts) make installing/removing the rear wheel a snap - just like a regular road bike.
The front brake is tucked behind the fork for smoother airflow. The Dean RS employs airfoil-shaped tubes and seatpost to slice through the wind similar to other aero time trial frames. But Ridley takes aerodynamics a step further with R-Flow and R-Surface Paint technologies so you can achieve higher speed with fewer watts of effort.
R-Flow describes small slots on the fork that draw turbulent air away from the spokes resulting in a drag reduction of 6.4%. Using data from extensive wind tunnel testing, Ridley engineers apply texture (R-Surface Paint) to strategic locations on the frame. This causes the air to move smoothly (3.6% less drag) around the frame instead of detaching and creating drag just like dimples on a golf ball allow it to travel farther.
