Pearl Izumi Elite Amfib Cycling Bib Tight

Winter training is not for the faint of heart. Slick roads, freezing temperatures, and whatever weather nature throws at you. If you enjoy those challenges, you know enough to have the best winter riding gear. And if you want the best functional protection with an integrated chamois, the piece to start with is the Pearl Izumi ELITE AmFIB Cycling Bib Tight. This is Pearl's warmest bib tight and features AmFIB Softshell fabric in key zones to deliver exceptional wind and water protection, as well as stretchy thermal fleece to keep you warm. The anatomically cut panels and the flexible materials ensure unmatched cycling function at a high level of protection. You have complete freedom of movement, yet are as warm and dry as you need to be to train at a high level through the winter.

The word cycling in the product name refers to the integrated chamois. Pearl also offers a non-chamois version, but with advances in fit, design, and materials, the integrated design works best for most cyclists. The ELITE 3D Chamois is a multi-density, anatomically cut cycling pad that is soft and supple, but provides excellent support of the sitbones. A center relief channel keeps the pressure off, and the flexible low density edges glide down with the inner thigh for a very comfortable fit and zero chafing. The pad pulls moisture away from the skin, keeping you as dry as possible, while releasing excess heat and moisture to the outer fabric. It is an ideal pad for winter training.

ELITE AmFIB Softshell panels cover the front of the bib tight, protecting you from face-on weather. This material extends up over the waist and around your backside. From mid-hamstring down to just below your calf, the more stretchable soft, ELITE Thermal Fleece is used. This allows excess heat to escape, limiting overheating, as well as keeping the cycling motion more fluid, with virtually no bunching behind the knee. The bib upper is a tightly woven, but stretchy polyester spandex mesh that provides some warmth, compression, and ensures the best fit. All seams throughout the garment are flat lock, ensuring smooth transitions and reducing discomfort.

Below the calf the leg features the softshell protection all around. One of the great features of the bib tight is that an internal stirrup and gasket system allow the tight to be worn over your shoe covers, helping to seal out the elements without overly constricting blood flow around the ankle (which can lead to cold, numb feet). Pearl finishes the Elite Amfib Cycling Bib Tight with 360° reflectivity, enhancing safety in low-light conditions. If you are going to be training for extended sessions over the winter, despite the challenging conditions, there is hardly a better bib tight option, at any price, on the market. For under $170, you can take on the weather, build your hardcore credentials. and outwork the competition all winter long.

Ive ridden in these tights for the past two winters in New England. These tights are great for temperatures down into the low 20s with howling winds. As long as you are moving, you shouldnt feel cold. I'm not one for being cold and would rather be hot on a ride. These tights have kept me warm as toast in the worst conditions. Refer to Rule #9, Velominati. If you're looking to have an excuse to NOT have an off-season, then here you go. The fit isnt as tight as a bib short but I don't think they're supposed to. I'm 5-7 and weight about 135 lbs. and a size small is a great fit. My legs are on the thin but lean side and the lower legs of these tights are a tad loose, but not to a fault.
