This Chris King external cup bottom bracket is specifically designed for Shimano-compatible external type crank/bottom bracket systems. Anyone owning a Chris King headset or hubs can appreciate their high build quality, great looks, strength, and durability. Their bottom brackets have those same traits and are very popular with many satisfied users.
The bottom bracket is constructed from precision ground and anodized alloy cups (choose your color) fitted with the industries best bearings. These bearings can have grease purged and injected with Chris King's BB Grease Injection Tool. So essentially, they are Sealed bearing that are serviceable. Threads on the cups are absolutely perfect, so they will install to your frame without issue. Center sleeve is attached to the cups with O-ring seals and succeeds in keeping dirt and condensation out of the bottom bracket assembly. The total weight is 106 grams including 90 grams for the cups and bearings, 8 grams for the spacers and 8 grams for the sleeve.
These BB's are compatible with Shimano and Shimano-syle outboard cranksets only and will not work with SRAM/Truvativ GPX or FSA cranksets.
Two years and many thousands of miles later, this bottom bracket is as smooth and silent as the day it was new. Probably smoother. If it outlives two Dura-Ace BBs it has more than paid for itself. Skip the others, just buy this one.
Pros: Excellent, smooth, durable.
After three years riding on the FSA crank and BB installed by the dealer, I have switched to a Shimano R700 crank and Chris King BB. I am really disappointed in my decesion not to rid my self of the inferior crank and BB much sooner. It is obviously a superior piece of equipent. My first impression is very favorable. What a difference!
Once you break this in, it spins as smoothly as anything Ive ever seen. Its reliable, rebuildable, user-servicable, American-made, plenty light, and comes in cool colors. What more could you possibly ask for? Highly recommended.
Just got a new King BB and promptly threw out my FSA BB. much smoother, lighter, and im assuming ill never have to touch it again.
Have a few months on this now. Just like their headsets you put it on and forget about it. Installed with standard Park Tool for Shimano bottom bracket. Can rebuild it down the road if you need too. Probably will never have to buy another bottom bracket again after this one is installed....would purchase again...
