Like Mavic's top-end road shoes, the Tri Race Helium shoe features a light, stiff yet thin full carbon sole for stiffness, very light overall weight (right at 500 grams per pair in size 9.5), exceptional comfort and efficient power transfer. Another similarity is the no stretch Energy Frame that surrounds the foot and assists force transfer on the upstroke.
The carbon Energy Lock heel holder keeps the heel in place and is 50% lighter than molded heel cup. On the inside, Ergo Heel pads comfortably secure the heel in place without slipping. There is a textured section on the sole to keep the cleat from slipping as well as heel pads to protect the sole when walking.
Tri specific features include two Velcro strap closures and a heel loop to provide lightning fast transitions. The main strap is quite large and very easy to use when you are in a hurry. It can be cut to the perfect length for grab ability without being too long that it hits the crankarm.
There is a substantial amount of mesh on the upper as well as a breathable mesh area on the arch and toe area of the sole. The included ErgoFit 3D insole is also perforated. All this means water will drain through the shoes if you get a lot of water dumped on you during a hot weather event plus the shoe will dry very quickly.
